Though it was tipped to be a hot morning, an early start for our nature walk on December 5 meant we had finished birding by 8.30 am – there wasn’t much more “nature” to look at down at Riemore Downs, but the water birds were plentiful.
Julie, Susan, Jim, Ros, John and Jeff left the VIC on the dot of 6 a.m. and spent a pleasant couple of hours meandering around the small lakes and reed beds at Riemore, to the constant trilling of orioles and the squawking of friarbirds (Noisy and Little), Little Corellas and lorikeets (Rainbow and Scaly-breasted). A koel called intermittently in the distance, to remind us that summer was well and truly here, while dozens of Purple Swamp Hens scattered before us.
