Friends of Tamborine National Park (formerly Tamborine Bush Volunteers) are a group of volunteers for Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Whilst not a member group within Tamborine Mountain Natural History Association Inc, it is proud to support their work for our local native biodiversity.
The Tamborine Bush Volunteers (TBV) and the Tamborine Mountain Natural History Association (TMNHA) hosted a camp for over 70 people held at The Beacon on Tamborine from 27 - 30 March.
Each year the National Parks Association of Queensland Inc. (NPAQ) and its twelve affiliated organisations get together for a mini-conference and fun time on the weekend closest to the date of the gazettal of the first national park in Queensland, Witches Falls. These weekends have been held for the past 30 years and attendees come from as far away as Fraser Island to the north and Lake Broadwater (past Dalby) to the west.
Attendees visited the centenary celebrations held at Witches Falls Section on Friday 28 March. Three organisations, TBV, TMNHA and NPAQ manned information stands at the event. Guided walks were enjoyed in several sections of Tamborine NP - Witches Falls, The Knoll, MacDonald, Palm Grove and Joalah. There were also two bird walks and a tour of the TBV revegetated area at Pirralilla. Evening entertainment included a sunset happy hour, a CD viewing of local birds and wildlife plus a dinner and bush dance. There was also time for visiting local attractions and businesses.
At the formal meeting on Sunday morning, all organisations presented reports and senior officers from Environment Protection Agency gave presentations on past and future issues facing national parks in Queensland.
These conferences bring together environmental and nature based groups for discussion and networking.
