A cold, dry and very windy day made conditions tough for all. Once in the forest we were protected from the wind but we were exposed at lookouts along the way.
The forest had been devestated in places from the fires that went through late last year and high winds that had knocked over huge numbers of trees. We could see plenty of evidence that regrowth was on the way, but it would seem that many years would be needed to again show the forest at its best.
We also found huge numbers of hikers coming and going along the track and the Gap Car Park was full so just as well we planned to go to the Gap Picnic Area to start the hike.
Mt Cordeaux and Bare rock had essentially been completely burnt out and almost unrecogniseable and views from the top showed how the fires had jumped to various parts of Fassifern Valley and down toward Mt Mathieson and Spicers Peak - Colin
