Walkers - Mary, John & Colin
There was a very small group of us today as a lot are away at present. I met Colin and John at Oxenford and drove up to the Venman Bushland National Park in my car where we met Mary, a lady that I have walked with in Tasmania and we've also done the Great Ocean Rd walk. She belongs to the Walking for Pleasure Group in Brisbane and wanted to walk with us today.
We set off just after 8.30 am and did the Tingalpa Creek Circuit. This is a lovely walk and meanders beside Tingalpa Creek and is only 2.5 klm return. We then went on to do the Venman Circuit which also strolls alongside the scenic banks of Tingalpa Creek through rainforest and into open eucalypt forest.
Report
We had morning tea on a large log in the shade, not long into the Venman Circuit. We then walked on and had an early lunch at the Quarry which is in the Neville Lawrie Reserve. This is a beautiful place to stop and enjoy the surroundings. There are lots of water lillies and the clouds were reflecting in the water today. The seat is missing so we sat in the shade under some trees, to the side of the lake.
We saw lots of butterflies today and some Lace Monitors and so got some good photos. Colin and I modified the walk this time so as to make it not so long as last time and it turned into a more enjoyable walk of just under 15 klm. It was also a lot greener this time due to all the recent rain.
We were back at the cars by 2 pm and went to our usual Neilsen's Nursery where we had our refreshments. We all chose a lovely, cold milkshake today and all really enjoyed them after our walk as the weather got a bit hotter near the end.
Would be nice to do this walk again a bit later this year when the weather is cooler and more people are able to do it. I am sure that they will enjoy it a lot more than when we did it last year as it is a lot shorter and we only walk in some of the nicer parts of the park - Julie
