Distance - Araucaria+ 5.5k Thylogale+ 11.5k
We met at Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre at 8.30 am and walked the Araucaria Track which is 5 kms return. It was a nice easy walk and it mostly follows along the shores of the Enoggera Reservoir. As we were walking back along the track we met Christine J as she was a bit later because she'd had a tradesman coming for an emergency. We walked further along another track and had our morning tea up in an area overlooking the water which had some timber seating where I think that maybe some talks are held when the centre is open.
We then drove to Jolly's Lookout (about 15 minutes) and were very lucky to get parking near the start of our next walk. We first walked the Egernia Circuit (1.5 kms) and then the Thylogale Walking Track down to the Boombana Picnic Area which is 8kms return. A nice flat track and we could hear lots of birds along the way. We had our lunch in the picnic area and then did the 1 km Pitta Circuit. This is a lovely walk with lots of very large Strangler Figs, one of which has an elevated boardwalk around it.
We spotted a red-necked Pademelon on our way back up to the picnic area. We walked back along the Thylogale Track to our cars and seemed to get there really quickly. We then walked up the road to see the lovely views from Jolly's Lookout. We ended up walking about 16+ kms in total for the day so well worth the drive up there. It was a lovely day of "walking and talking" in a really nice area where quite a few of the walkers hadn't walked before - Julie C
