Total Distance walked - 118.9k
Our day turned out fine, after a bit of a worrying time due to rain during the day and night before. There were 9 of us today. Julie, with the help of Colin, lead the walk, Helen and her friend, Carol, Michelle, Joy, Steve, Phil and Paul all set off on our walk 9 am from the Venman Bushland National Park picnic area.
We walked on a variety of tracks and trails and had our morning tea on a large log on the Wiry Panic Track. We had lunch at the Quarry. This is a lovely place to just sit and take in the atmosphere. What would have once been just a large, ugly hole created by man is now full of water with waterlillies and birdlife, making it a lovely site. It was like an Oasis in the middle of our walk.
We walked mostly in Venman Bushland National Park but also in Don and Christine Burnett Conservation Area, Neville Lawrie Reserve and also just touched on the edge of Daisy Hill Conservation Park. Quite a few people on bushbikes passed us on the way.
We completed the Venman Circuit, which is 7.5 klms return but also did quite a few other tracks and circuits. Colin has measured the total walk using his Tracking App and Google Earth at 18.5k, of which 1.2k was an excursion error. It was no wonder we arrived back at our cars a little later than expected at 3.30 pm.
It was a lovely day to walk and talk and enjoy each other’s company. We finished it off at the Neilsen’s Nursery where we were very lucky to get cuppas due to the Café closing at 4 pm. We arrived at 3.55pm and we all had to give her the correct change as she had already balanced the cash register, but at least they still served us and then they closed up the café roller door and brought out our coffees pretty quickly - Julie
